Boundary Dispute

Boundary disputes often stem from relatively minor encroachments that can escalate quickly, becoming highly personal. Seeking legal advice early in a boundary dispute is crucial to prevent escalating hostilities between parties. Even minor issues, such as a misplaced refuse bin, can cause significant friction between neighbors, so timely legal intervention is essential to maintain good relations.

Many boundary disputes cannot be resolved solely based on property leases or deeds, as boundaries may shift over time and may not match the current layout of the land. Resolving these disputes may require tracing the history of the property through historical documents, parish records, and old maps or plans.

It’s not uncommon for boundary disputes to end up in court, especially when independent experts hired by each party disagree on the boundary’s location. Disputes over rights of way, particularly those established over time, can be especially complex and necessitate immediate legal advice.
